Cast Iron Skillets
Cast Iron Skillets are without a doubt the most popular items available in terms of cast iron cookware. A good skillet lasts a lifetime and can be passed from generation to generation. Taken care of, it just keeps improving with age often becoming a prized family posession. Get started with your tradition today!
Of all the cast iron products available, the skillet remains the “King of Cast Iron Cookware”. Culinary lovers everywhere have at least one because of their versatility in preparing everything from Fried Chicken to Baked Goods. They continually appear on Television food programs and in cookbooks as a favorite of the chef and for good reason. No other cooking utensil facilitates direct transfer from stovetop to oven quite like a cast iron skillet which makes cooking that expensive steak to perfection an easy and tasty task.
ITEMS TO CONSIDER WHEN PURCHASING
1) Size: Before purchasing that perfect skillet make sure it meets your needs. If your going after a larger size, make sure it fits in the oven and be aware of the weight of the skillet. A good set of oven mitts is essential with the larger pans to avoid spillage and burns.
2) Seasoning: While most skillets today come pre-seasoned, some of them are not. Make sure of what you are purchasing and ALWAYS follow the MANUFACTURERS directions on Care of your skillet. Failure to do so can result in a warped or cracked skillet and a mess.
3) Read: Browse through the product reviews. People who routinely cook in a cast iron skillet tend to love doing so and write about their experiences. We strive to offer well rated products that others are delighted with.
4) Cost: The old adage “You Get What You Pay For” applies equally to cast iron cookware. While great bargains exist, the cheaper items are usually just that and tend to be a dissapointment. A good cast iron pot is more of an appliance and not just “cookware”.
